Claire Holmes secures conviction of teenage boy charged with attempted murder.

A 15-year-old boy who left a 14-year-old girl with life threatening injuries after brutally stabbing her multiple times in a targeted attack in Hessle in November last year has been found guilty of attempted murder.  Neither child can be named for legal reasons.

On Friday 1 November last year, a 13-year-old girl appeared at the side of the A63, Hessle with multiple injuries asking for help from motorists. Assisted by members of the public, the girl explained she had been stabbed and named the teenage boy who was 14-years-old at the time.

The motorist immediately reported the incident to police at 6.50am and when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the girl had sustained lacerations to her neck, abdomen, chest and back. The girl was subsequently taken to hospital to receive treatment to life threatening injuries where she remained for over three weeks.

The teenage boy, 15 was charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article following the attack. An eight day trial commenced on 3rd March 2024 and today (Wednesday, 12 March) a jury returned a verdict finding the teenager guilty of the attempted murder.  The case involved use of an intermediary by both the Prosecution and Defence.  There was extensive media evidence incorporating CCTV, Police body worn footage and recordings from the police station of the Defendant being booked into custody and being interviewed. 

Claire was led by David Lamb KC of Dere Street chambers and instructed by Leonie Brooks of the Crown Prosecution Service.

Sentence will take place on 4th April.
