Mrs Becky Miller has been appointed to the post of Legally Qualified Chair for the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service following a successful recruitment process. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service is the tribunal service for doctors which runs hearings which make independent decisions about whether doctors are fit to practise medicine. A Tribunal will decide if facts presented to it by the General Medical Council have been found proved; whether the doctor’s fitness to practise is impaired and whether any action should be taken. Tribunals will also consider applications to be restored to the Medical Register or whether there has been compliance with sanctions imposed.

The role will involve sitting as part of the Tribunal and advising on points of law; ensuring that the case runs fairly and expeditiously; reaching a decision alongside the other members of the panel and drafting decisions. Mrs Becky Miller is currently undertaking training and intends to start sitting in the Summer of 2022.
