Connor was instructed to defend a woman charged with 10 counts of possession with intent to supply Class B and Class C drugs.
The case included protracted argument over forensic expert evidence of the drugs recovered, including the potency of THC in cannabis allegedly cultivated by the defendant. Following a number of police raids, a range of high-THC edibles including sweets and baked goods, were also recovered and linked to the case. The total value of the drugs was estimated at over £40,000, with allegations that the defendant operated an online business selling CBD products under the guise of aiding individuals with chronic illnesses.
The defendant faced a potentially lengthy custodial sentence, with the Crown proposing a starting point of 4 years for each of the offences. It was also noted that the defendant had a lengthy history of similar offending regarding the possession and supply of Class A and Class B drugs. However, following legal argument on the appropriate sentencing guidelines and mitigation that emphasised the exceptional circumstances of the case, the court imposed a 12-month community order instead.
