CRIMINAL CASES CONCERNING COMPUTING AND DIGITAL EVIDENCE

CRIMINAL CASES CONCERNING COMPUTING AND DIGITAL EVIDENCE

19 February 2019

Wilberforce Barristers recently hosted a Conference in chambers with Steve Guest from Keith Borer Consultants, who specialises in the field of Digital Forensics. His background involved a significant time spent working with North Yorkshire Police, giving him a range of criminal experience, both for the prosecution and the defence.

He delivered a thought-provoking presentation to members of chambers on Computing and Digital Evidence, with a focus on cases before the Court which involve indecent images. This included a range of topics, from the origin and reliability of data collected from computer devices, to ways in which prosecution evidence be challenged and the use of expert evidence which can potentially be relied upon in Court.

With modern technology developing at an increasingly fast rate, this is an area of particular interest for the Criminal Team. We are keen to ensure that we widen our knowledge and understanding of these developments and to apply them in our practice. Should you require any assistance with cases of this nature, please do not hesitate to contact chambers for further advice.
