Richard Thompson, led by Bryan Cox KC, obtains acquittal in Manslaughter case.

Following a five-day trial before HHJ Mansell KC sitting at Bradford Crown Court. Richard, led by Bryan Cox KC (St Paul’s Chambers), represented a 23-year-old with no previous convictions charged with manslaughter.

The defendant, aged 21 at the time of the incident, had attended a public house with his partner and friends. The deceased attended the public house, alone, and interacted with the group. At the end of the evening, the deceased put his arm around the defendant’s partner, and touched her inappropriately. The defendant gave evidence that he warned the deceased twice, before striking him once to the head, causing him to fall. The deceased suffered a brain injury as a result of the impact with the floor.

The defendant was unanimously acquitted following two hours of jury deliberation.
