Connor Stuart represented an appellant was who sentenced for the offence of Dangerous Driving and disqualified from driving for a period of 10 years. Leave for appeal was duly granted.
The original incident began when the police attempted to stop the appellant’s car following a report of suspected drinking. The appellant initially refused to comply, leading to a five-minute police pursuit during which he drove at excessive speeds, ignored road signs, and conducted high-risk manoeuvres before eventually being arrested.
At the Court of Appeal, Mr Stuart successfully argued for a substantial reduction in the disqualification period, citing relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Act and the principles in R v Morrison. Following robust submissions, the appellant’s disqualification period was halved, with a reduction from 10 years to 5 years. Connor was commended for his thorough and persuasive advocacy.
