Prior to joining Chambers, Amber worked for various firms of solicitors in the North East, notably as a Prison Law advocate and a Police Station accredited representative. Amber has also had the pleasure of teaching as an associate lecturer at Northumbria University on the LPC.

Crime

Amber acts regularly in the Crown Court, both prosecuting and defending, in a range of matters. She fearlessly represents the interests of her clients, grappling comfortably with complex issues. Amber gives sensible and pragmatic advice.

She is comfortable dealing with vulnerable defendants and witnesses. Familiar with mental health and learning difficulties, she is able to navigate such and ensure her clients are represented fairly.

Amber is known for her down to earth nature and her reassuring presence. She can calmly deal with any difficulty, keeping a cool head even under pressure.

Notable Cases:

R v T (2024) appealed sentence – secured reduction of sentence for defendant from 8 weeks to 36 days, making the defendant time served.

R v Y (2023) secured adjournment to investigate suspected ADHD of defendant awaiting sentence for GBH.

R v K (2022) secured suspended sentence for defendant convicted of multiple counts of fraud and theft against elderly complainants.

R v C and M (2022) secured acquittal for defendant accused of possession with intent to supply class A substances following a 3-day trial at Hull Crown Court.

R v W (2021) secured suspended sentence order for defendant convicted of grievous bodily harm and theft.

R v B-M (2021) secured acquittal for defendant, who was a career foster carer, faced with charges of assaulting a child and a public order offence, raising self defence to the charges against her.

R v G (2021) raised legal arguments for a defendant and secured adjournments to resist incarceration in a male prison, where the defendant did not have a gender recognition certificate but had transitioned to female.

Family

Amber has a busy practice appearing in both private and public matters. She also has experience of being led in complex public cases.

She uses her skill of analysis to rationally identify the real issues in a case and deals with them in her relaxed manner. She is realistic, level headed and manages client’s expectations.

Those who instruct her find their clients are in a safe pair of hands. She has been described by an instructing solicitor as “a credit to the Bar”. Endlessly patient, clients regularly express their gratitude for her assistance and calm reassurance in emotional proceedings.

CYC v B, S, S (2023) resisted findings in a public case for an intervenor accused of harming a child.
